Why I fell in love with Kundalini yoga

So I was bitten by the yoga bug some years ago. I have always been very fond of exercising, and being brought up “in the fitness industry” with both parents working in the local gym, I could really not become anything but that. Exercising is an important part of my life. As I matured personally, I quite naturally also sought development in my way of exercising. I required more. With yoga I get a whole extra dimension. The time I spend on the yoga mat allows me to tune in and restore my divine spark, the centre of the love that is within us all, always and every day. After many, many years of thinking negatively about my body, I had almost buried myself. When practising yoga I finds my true essence, the beautiful and true version of myself. Your yoga mat can thus become your safe place; to stop time, pull back and reconnect to the beauty that lies hidden inside of you.

Yoga’s effect on you

You must be aware of your body's development, listen to it instead of stressing it by doing things it’s not ready for, creating frustration and at worst injuries. That is why yoga is so brilliant. Yoga enables you to develop incredible awareness on the body.

The yoga poses extends the muscles lengthwise, they become more enduring, the fat around the cells disappears and combined with proper breathing the exercises improves circulation and excrete toxins. A great remedy for cellulite for example. A regular yoga practice balances the metabolism because the exercises affect the thyroid. That way you can quickly and without a struggle keep your ideal weight.

Are you a “stress head”? Yoga is a great way to learn to relax. Whatever you do with your body rubs off on the mind and vice versa. Therefore, the slow physical movement lets you slow down your pace, creating calmness and concentration, moving through the body and into the psyche. This decreases stress hugely at all levels.

Yoga is about returning to your natural equilibrium. When your mind and soul is centered and your body is in harmony, it ‘s playfully easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Kundalini Yoga

I am a Kundalini yoga girl! This type of yoga opens up your presence to let you get more focused and develop at a personal level.

Kundalini yoga is an ancient form of yoga that has not been practiced in the West until recently. It’s taught by a guy named Yogi Bhajan. In 1969 Yogi Bhajan founded the 3HO (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization) to introduce this yoga practice to a wider population. Although Kundalini had not been taught to the public, Yogi Bhajan felt that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy its great benefits.

Why kundalini yoga?

Kundalini is one of the more spiritual types of yoga. It goes beyond the physically demanding positions with its emphasis on breathing, meditation, mudras (hand positions) and mantras. This does not mean that kundalini yoga is not physically demanding, it can indeed be very physically intense. I love this type of yoga because it appeals to both mental and physical challenges.

It is much more focussed on the spiritual and mediative aspect of yoga and that’s why it’s brilliant as a quick way to become more spiritual and to help with your personal development.
